IV fluid orders are usually expressed in volume per unit of time, e.g., 150ml/hr or 500ml over 4 hours - but you know that ! If you happen to work at a facility that uses IV pumps for everything, you don't have much math to do. But as nurses are aware, the aura of cost containment is spreading. Many facilities have or will reduce the use of pumps and nursing is back to using plain old fashion drips - and we're back to that arithmetic again ....
