LanLight.exe  Ver 1.1

Description:
LanLight.exe is a small Visual Basic 6 program that monitors LAN TCP/IP traffic from & to your computer. The program runs as a System Tray Icon providing visual indication of network traffic. Right click the icon in the System Tray to Exit (stop) the program or change Icons. Holding the pointer over the icon will display the total number of TCP segments sent and received by your computer.

Please note there are separate versions of this program for Window 98 and for Windows NT4. Be sure to download the correct version for your Operating System. If you download the incorrect program, the setup will not run.

Purpose:
The program is intended as a "replacement" for (or addition to) the Modem Icon that used to show up when you dialed into your ISP for Internet connectivity.

There are 2 installation versions - one version is the executable only (LanlightP.zip).
The second - recommended - (LanlightF.zip) is a complete install that includes the required Visual Basic runtime and support dll's.

Cost:
The program is Freeware.   .... Enjoy.

Installation:
1) LanLightF.zip
- UnZip  the file to extract the Setup files to a temporary folder. ** Make sure you remember the temporary folder location **
- With Explorer, browse to the temporary folder and double click Setup.exe to begin installation.
- Default installation folder is: C:\Program Files\Lanlink\
You may change this folder.
- Installation creates 2 icons, 1 in the Accessories folder and 1 in the Startup folder
allowing the program to start automatically when windows starts. If you don't wish it to start automatically, delete the icon from the Startup folder.
Note: To do this, Right click on the Task Bar & select properties. Click the Start Menu Tab and click the Remove Button. Scroll down to Startup and click the +, select LanLink and
click the Remove Button.

2) LanLightP.zip
- create a folder for the new program, e.g., C:\Program FIles\Lanlink\
- copy LanlightP.zip to it
- UnZip the files.
- Create an Icon (shortcut) by selecting LanLight.exe and Right Clicking, select Create Shortcut from the popup menu.
- Cut and paste the icon to the Programs folder of your choice
OR
- Right click on the Task Bar & select properties. Click the Start Menu Tab and click the Add Button. Click Browse Button and go to the folder where you extracted Lanlight.exe and select it & Click Open Button. Click Next. Click the folder in Programs where you want the icon. To start up automatically, select the Startup folder.

Required files:
VB6STKIT.DLL
COMCAT.DLL
STDOLE2.TLB
ASYCFILT.DLL
OLEPRO32.DLL
OLEAUT32.DLL
MSVBVM60.DLL
MSCOMCTL.OCX
IPHLPAPI.DLL
LanLight.exe

If you experience problems with the "program only" version, one or more of the required files are probably outdated (or missing). Download LanLightF.zip instead & it will update the system files. System file versions are as provided with VB6 SP4 and / or IExplorer 5.5. As of September 2000, they are the most recent available.

Computer / Operating System Requirements:
Windows98, Windows NT 4.0 SP4 or later. This program will NOT run on Windows95.
It is unnecessary on Windows 2000 as this functionality is already included in the Network Adapter properties window.

Uninstall LanLightF.exe :
Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Select LanLight & click Uninstall button.

Uninstall LanLightP.exe :
Simply delete the folder and any icons you created.

Known Issues:
This is an updated version of the Lanlight Installation Program.  There is a problem with the previous version installing on NT4. The install program incorrectly over wrote a system dll. It copied a Newer, but incompatible version of the file IPhlpAPI.dll to the \WINNT\SYSTEM32 folder. If you have attempted to install LanLight on an NT4 system, it will be necessary to restore the above file from your service pack or installation disk. Please contact Support for more information or help.
